At The Plastic Surgeon Miami, Dr. Ramiro Morales provides personalized breast augmentation care for patients throughout Miami and South Florida. When you reach out, he will first understand your concern and goal, then discuss the possible options to help you make an informed decision.
A breast augmentation procedure might improve the following:
This procedure aims at improving the volume and shape of your breasts using saline or silicone implants. Several factors determine what type of implant would suit your needs right, and that includes your body type and age. During the consultation, Dr. Morales would explain the process, the risks and benefits involved, and walk you through options.
However, breast augmentation surgery might not correct every concern. For example, implants alone may not provide enough lifting for breasts with significant sagging. In those cases, Dr. Morales may discuss whether a breast lift could better address your goals.
The selection of a breast implant would depend on implant type, size and placement.
It is one of the most common implant types used for the breast augmentation procedure. These implants come filled with a soft silicone gel, and they feel very natural. However, these implants might require a larger incision. The FDA approves silicone implants for cosmetic use in patients aged 22 and older.
Key points to know:
The saline implants contain sterile salt water. The FDA approves them for cosmetic use in patients aged 18 and older. This implant type might require a smaller incision than silicone implants. If a saline implant leaks or breaks, the implant loses volume and the breast size will change.
The implant type is not the only concern; the shape and profile are also part of the decision-making process in breast augmentation. The implants come in varied shapes and are usually available in low, moderate and high profiles. An implant profile refers to how far an implant would project from the chest.
Here are some options
According to the FDA, implants are not lifetime devices; there might be a need for future surgery. Please note that a silicone implant might fail without any obvious prior sign. The FDA recommends an MRI or ultrasound 5 to 6 years after surgery, then every 2 to 3 years, to check silicone implants.
You may be a candidate for breast augmentation in Miami, if you:
Are in good health, with no conditions that affect healing
Do not smoke at all, or you can quit smoking before surgery.
Have finished growing and have realistic expectations about size and results.
You are not pregnant or breastfeeding currently
Are bothered about the shape, size, and/or symmetry of your natural breasts
Dr. Morales confirms your candidacy, including FDA age guidelines for each implant type, at your consultation.
Understanding the breast augmentation surgery process can help you prepare for your procedure. Here’s what to know.

Understanding how breast implant sizes are decided can help you prepare for your consultation.
Your body type and goal would determine the breast implant size; therefore, it would vary from patient to patient. Here is what you need to know:
Your chest width
Your breast tissue
Your goals for the result
Sizers or 3D tools
During your consultation, Dr. Morales will learn about your preferred breast size and goals. He’ll then recommend an implant size that fits your frame. Read our full guide on how to choose your implant size.
The position of the cut and the implant insertion would affect how your breast augmentation is done.
Implants over the muscle sit in the subglandular position, behind the breast tissue. The submuscular position places the implant beneath the chest muscle instead. Dual-plane placement, a combination of the two, is also used.
Implants add volume, but they cannot lift breasts that sag a lot. If that applies to you, a lift can be added. Breast augmentation with lift in Miami means both surgeries happen together, in one procedure.
Dr. Morales can tell you at your consultation whether you are eligible. Sagging is the main reason a breast lift comes into the plan, particularly after pregnancy or weight loss. He will also go over your goals, plus the risks and benefits.
Healing takes time and happens in phases. The pace and recovery timeline would vary from patient to patient. Here’s a recovery guide.
Stage 1
You must rest during the first 48 hours and avoid doing anything strenuous. You will wear a support bra, and your team will go over how to manage discomfort. Do not ignore the guideline, as it will support your recovery.
STAGE 2
Keep activity light and continue wearing your support bra. Avoid anything that strains the chest or arms. Expect tightness and swelling; sleep on your back, If you feel any discomfort reach out to your care team.
STAGE 3
Many patients are ready for desk work in about one week . Activity limits still apply. Dr. Morales would offer the guidelines regarding when you can be back to work. If your work involves any heavy lifting then you should follow the guideline.
STAGE 4
Limit eases step by step, and you return to more activity once Dr. Morales clears you. Most patients can return to the gym and can wear underwire bras after clearance. But before you take any such step, ask him about the possible discomfort that you may feel and how long you should wear your regular bras.
STAGE 5
The implants settle into their final position over this time, and the breasts look more natural as they do. If you are not happy with the results, or any discomfort persists, do not hesitate to talk to Dr. Morales.
No surgery is risk free.
Scar tissue can form around the implant, which is called capsular contracture. Rippling and asymmetry are other concerns.
Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) is a rare cancer of the immune system. It’s most often linked to textured implants and usually appears as swelling years after surgery.
Options are available if you ever want your implants removed.
Dr. Ramiro Morales, MD, F.A.C.S., is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has more than 27 years of experience. He provides personalized consultations for patients from Miami and across South Florida.

The FDA does not approve implants as lifetime devices. A silicone implant can rupture without obvious signs, while a saline rupture is easy to notice. Ask Dr. Morales about the lifespan of your implants.
Most women can breastfeed after breast augmentation. Implants placed under the muscle or through an incision under the breast fold are less likely to affect milk ducts. If you plan to have children, tell Dr. Morales so he can choose the incision and placement with that in mind. Read more about breastfeeding after breast augmentation.
